View Full Version : Can't get Orange CD to load

A couple of days ago I couldn't get OCD to load at all. I browsed the forum and tried what fixes I could find. I disabled all IE add-ons. No help. I downloaded the newest version of OCD and IE 8. OCD still won't load.
I'm not very computer savvy, so I don't know what to look for but here's what I noticed: The hard drive keeps turning but nothing happens. The Task Manager shows the system totally idled. I don't know if it's significant, but on the applications tab of the task manager OCD is listed twice.
Thanks for any help you can give me.

Steve,
This happens to me with Windows Live Mail.
When this occurs end both processes shown in the task manager and run OrangeCD again.
OrangeCD should load normally.
I hope this solves your problem.

The exact same thing happened to me earlier this week! I've never
had a problem with Orange CD until now. It would freeze up before
loading properly & the hard drive would just whirl.
I searched this forum for answers, uninstalled recent Windows
security updates & IE add-ons, even uninstalled/reinstalled the
program, but nothing was happening.
Finally, instead of trying to import my existing database (which is
when the program would crash), I created a new one. I then rescanned
my music collection from the hard drive (losing any extra data I spent
forever entering) and it seemed to work.
But it's still running really slow. I don't know if it's the program or my
computer but it was incredibly frustrating.

Michael,
I had the same problem. In my case it was the antivirus program that was causing the slowness. Disable the antivirus and run OrangeCD. If it loads normally, then you have caught the culprit. I had to change my antivirus program and now OrangeCD runs super fast.

This problem is caused by Norton Antivirus 2009. It has a bug that freezes OrangeCD Catalog on startup, making it extremely slow to use.
To work around this problem, go to Norton Antivirus 2009 "Computer settings", and click on "Scan exclusions" -> "+Configure". This will open Scan Exclusions dialog. Click Add button in lower (Auto-protect exclusions) part of the dialog and add path to your OrangeCD database files. (Usually the path is ...\My Documents\My Music). Press OK and OK again. This should fix the issue and allow to run OrangeCD with antivirus turned on.

Hey!
This might be it. I followed those instructions & Orange CD seems fine at the moment.
I am very grateful! I love this program & was dreading the thought of not being able to use it. Thanks!

Thank you SO much for posting the solution to this problem! I've been struggling with OrangeCD not loading the past few days, and I had no idea what was causing the problems. I thought my database had gotten too large, so I managed to compact it and change the settings so that all album artwork was stored in a folder instead of the database, but that didn't help.
I didn't even consider the fact it could have been Norton Antivirus 2009!
Thanks so much.

Some of us might say the problem is using Norton Antivirus... ;)
Thanks Andrei for posting the fix.
I had just installed Norton Internet Security 2009 (upgraded from Norton 2007) and so I was sure that my problem was in that area. I followed your instructions and OrangeCD is working properly again.

I just upgraded to Norton 360 and it is the culprit. I had to exclude my OrangeCD DB file from my newly upgrade Norton 360's Autoprotect
